Themes this month include:
Alaska
Polar Animals
Martin Luther King, Jr.
This month we will learn the story of Balto the famous sled dog that saved the children in the town of Nome, Alaska and how that eventually led to the creation of Alaska’s Iditarod sled dog race. The Picasso class will act out the story at our parent coffee on Jan. 26.
In January we will also have our second visiting musician! Dan, the piano man, will teach us a few special music classes. We will also continue to have teacher Iris visit each class every week for our movement and music classes.

A Very Big Thank You!
Thank you so much to everyone that donated an item, or two , from the giving tree last month. The Hands On and St. David's communities made this holiday season special for a family in need. The back of my car was filled with wrapped gifts and the children we delivered the gifts to were jumping with joy! Thank you!

Valentine Party
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day Feb.10 through 14. Please have your child bring in Valentine cards on, or before, Feb. 10th. Cards can be homemade or store bought. Cards should be addressed to "My Friend" and should be signed with your child's name.

Children should bring in a shoe box, or something like it, to make their Valentine mailbox.

Featured artist of the week
Each week one child will be picked to be the “Featured Artist”. When it is your turn to be the artist of the week, you get to bring in some pictures and photographs to hang up in the classroom. The featured artist also brings something from home to show and tell about during circle time. |
Summer and Fall Registration
Summer and Fall Registration
Registration materials and information will be available for summer camps and fall preschool at our parent coffee February 29 and at our open house. Hands On accepts registrations from current students (and younger siblings) any time after Feb. 29. Current students will find out the camps and classes they are in by March 23, 2012. Hands On will accept new students for fall and summer beginning March 24, 2012. New students are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registration forms will be dated when received. All registration forms submitted by new families before March 24 will be dated March 24. |

**Remember to send warm coats & hats & mittens & play shoes for outside on cold days. Kids love to run around in fresh air even when it is cold.
**In the event that Portland Public Schools is closed or opening late due to snow or ice, Hands On will be closed.
