Families Thanksgiving
|
|
Throughout the month of November, we will be reading the story, Stone Soup. The story is about a village that comes together to make a big pot of soup for everyone. Each person adds only one thing and in the end a big pot of soup and feast are enjoyed by all. Our Stone Soup night is an evening event for the whole school. It is fun to see all the different families that attend throughout the week. We hope to have music by one of our visiting musicians, and families can sing and dance along. The Picasso class will also display artwork that they have been working on all fall! Both classes work all week making decorations and food. If your child is bringing an ingredient for the soup please bring it Thursday, Nov. 10, morning. Like the story, we couldn’t have this wonderful get together without everyone’s help. Here is what you can do to add to our Stone Soup night: |
• If your child attends: • 1 or 2 days a week-Please bring desserts, or bread/rolls.. • 3,4 or 5 days - Please bring a salad or a side dish

Holiday Season Giving Project
Each November & December both classrooms work together on a holiday giving project. In the past we have collected cans to raise money for toys for children in our community, as well as worked on handmade projects and stuffed them in stockings with other goodies for elderly folks that are unable to leave their homes. This year we are working with The Oregon Food bank and collecting cans of food! Please bring in your cans of food for the food bank during the Stone Soup week and Stone Soup night. It will be really nice for the students to see that even a small contribution added to other small contributions can turn into a great big contribution! It is also a great way for our students to help our local community.

Visiting Musicians
We are so lucky to have teacher Iris visit our class each week! Iris is an amazing teacher with a great voice and always keeps our students singing, dancing and stretching! Iris teaches our creative movement and music class. Every one of Iris's classes blends an element of dance, songs, stories and music. Children share their own ideas and everyone has the opportunity to lead and follow. I know all the children look forward to music class!
This month we are also starting our guest musicians visits! Some of our first guests will be Zak Bordan and Dan Fitzmaurice. Zak is a picker, songwriter and singer of American roots music as well as playing choro music from Brazil. Our classes love to dance to his music and singing.
Dan, the piano man, brings great fun to our class by playing traditional instruments as well as making music with recycled materials. He is also a member of the Harrison Hill Music Co-op here at St. David's.
Do you play music? Let us know and you could be a visiting musician! |
